YEOJA Mag x SNS Launch
Girls Supporting Girls12 June 2019
Last week, YEOJA Mag teamed up with Sneakersnstuff Berlin for our launch event: Girls Supporting Girls. YEOJA readers came out to the Sneakersnstuff's footwear store in Mitte to celebrate with us. Here's a recap of what went down:
Girl Talk & GSBTB
The night kicked off with a ‘Girl Talk’ spearheaded by YEOJA’s Editor-in-Chief, Rae Tilly. Panellists included nail artist Maddy Ayers of ISLA Berlin, NO SHADE‘s Grinderteeth and YEOJA’s Art Director, Tabitha Swanson. Discussion topics centred on female entrepreneurship in Berlin and the difficulties of navigating creative industries as a womxn/ trans*/non-binary person. We were stunned by the turnout and couldn’t have asked for a better audience or panel team.
Also joining us was Tom from Give Something Back to Berlin Open Music School, for whom we were raising funds. The school is offering womxn-centred projects the chance to enrol in courses such as music production and guitar lessons. Your donations were greatly appreciated.
Art Installation
Attentive eyes may have noticed an installation behind the panel featuring the work of YEOJA’s 30-plus global contributors. Over time, YEOJA has been able to cover life in Japan, up-and-coming designers at London Fashion Week and the ongoings of U.S. politics, to name a few. In order to bring these stories to life, we looped in Visual Jockey Zoey Vero and sound artist Timur Novikov for a live-action art piece.
Melisa Minca
If you weren’t already feeling merry from our drinks selection—named in honour of our Icons of the Month series— you were probably queuing up to see our three stations. First up was Berlin-based designer Melisa Minca who orchestrated an iron-on workshop focussing on upcycling and sustainable fashion. Attendees were asked to bring their own garms to customise with the YEOJA logo – the end results did not disappoint.
YEOJA x EscapeTheCloud Shop
There was also had the chance to purchase limited edition pieces from our jewellery collaboration with Escape the Cloud. Items for sale included a chain necklace, barbed wire earrings and dangly ones too, all featuring the YEOJA logo. We also held an online competition for a free pair of our barbed wire hoops. The competition is now closed but be sure to look out for our online shop coming soon.
Tattoos by Natassja Lehmann
What’s a party without tattoos? Pretty boring we assume. For all our body-ink fans, the talented Natassja Lehmann lent her hand and curated flash designs for the night’s festivities. If you were one of the many people queuing up, feel free to tag us and Natassja in your pictures.
AUCO & Yha Yha
Last but not least, NO SHADE’s AUCO and NWD Berlin’s Yha Yha (also featured in our #theWOCproject series) carried the night home with a fantastic selection of tunes on the decks.
Many Thanks
Making this night possible is a long list of volunteers and sponsors, without whom, the YEOJA Mag x SNS: Girls Supporting Girls launch would not have been a success. Many thanks to:
Maddy, Veslemoy, Tabitha, Melisa, Natassja, Zoey, Tim, Escape The Cloud, AUCO, Yha Yha, Alex, Leonie, Stephanie, Mari, Eily, Nola, Stefani, Lisa, Clare, Krystal, Douniah, Elle, Ginni, Aaron, Fredrik, Gianni, the SNS Berlin team, GSBTB, Schweppes, and Russian Standard.
