We couldn't have kick started Celestial Festival in a more fitting way with a performance by Soy Division (@soydivision.berlin) and Pisitakun (@pisitakun).
@soydivision.berlin is a contemporary art collective consisting of Indonesians living in Berlin, positioned at the intersection of art and activism.@soydivision.berlin have organised several projects including but not limited to:
ARYATI (2022): “Aryati”, an experimental music theater piece about the transformation of Keroncong music against the backdrop of Indonesian history. The work depicts the decolonization process of keroncong music from 1920 to 1990, from a colonial product to a claimed indigenous cultural heritage (supported by Haupstadtkulturfonds)
Kiamat (2022) is a multi-sensory music theater project initiated by Soydivision Kollektiv and L_KW, directed and co-produced by Rabih Beaini of Morphine Records. The latest album by Indonesian experimental music duo Senyawa inspires the piece. Kiamat (Day of Judgement), one of the compositions of the album Alkisah, becomes the central theme of this project (Supported by Musikfonds e.V)
“GAUNG – UNVORHERBESTIMMTE RESONANZ “ (2021-2022)- Lecture Performance about Decolonizing encounter of national identity stereotype (premiered in Ballhaus Naunynstrasse, in the framework of Decolonize Frequencies Festival 2021, supported by State of Berlin, Senate Department for Culture and Europe.)
@pisitakun is from Bangkok, Thailand. He started making visual arts and music in 2014 and is interested in music in different media environments. He uses a variety of inspirations in his songs, such as historical events, synthetic sounds, and musical instruments.
